لعج: لعَج: حب متأجج (ديوان الهذليين ص220 البيت السادس).
لاعج والجمع لواعج: آلام شديدة (عباد 71:1) (عبد الواحد 76) المقري 199:1، 275:8، 695:13).
لاعج والجمع لواعج: في (ملر 13: 24) وأم حسن تبعث بنغماتها لواعج الشؤون. الكلمتان الأخيرتان يبدو أن معناهما محقة لأن شؤون تستعمل بمعنى الدموع (لين 1491).

(لَعَجَ) اللَّامُ وَالْعَيْنُ وَالْجِيمُ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ، هُوَ حَرَارَةٌ فِي الْقَلْبِ. [وَ] مِنْهُ اللَّعْجُ: حَرَارَةُ الْحُبِّ فِي الْفُؤَادِ. وَلَعَجَ يَلْعَجُ. قَالَ أَبُو عَبِيدٍ: لَعَجَ الضَّرْبُ الْجِلْدَ: أَحْرَقَهُ. قَالَ الْهُذَلِيُّ:

إِذَا تَجَرَّدَ نَوْحٌ قَامَتَا مَعَهُ ... ضَرْبًا أَلِيمًا بِسِبْتٍ يَلْعَجُ الْجِلْدَا

وَلَعَجَهُ الْأَمْرُ: اشْتَدَّ عَلَيْهِ.
