درن: دَرَن: واحدته درنة وجمعه أدران. وهو عند الأطباء عجر صلبة تتولد في البدن من مواد يابسة سوداوية في الغالب كما يكون في الجذام ونحوه (محيط المحيط) وانظره في مادة دعرورة.
درنّي في رياض النفوس (ص15 و): مات لأنه أكل حيتاناً وشرب لبنا - وكان قبل ذلك يخوف الناس من أكل الحيتان مع اللبن.

(دَرَنَ) الدَّالُ وَالرَّاءُ وَالنُّونُ أَصْلٌ صَحِيحٌ، وَهُوَ تَقَادُمٌ فِي الشَّيْءِ مَعَ تَغَيُّرِ لَوْنٍ. فَالدَّرِينُ: الْيَبِيسُ الْحَوْلِيُّ. وَيُقَالُ لِلْأَرْضِ الْمُجْدِبَةِ: أُمُّ دَرِينٍ. قَالَ:

تَعَالَىْ نُسَمِّطْ حُبَّ دَعْدٍ وَنَغْتَدِي ... سَوَاءَيْنِ وَالْمَرْعَى بِأُمِّ دَرِينِ

يَقُولُ: تَعَالَيْ نَلْزَمْ حُبَّنَا وَأَرْضَنَا وَعَيْشَنَا.

وَمِنَ الْبَابِ الدَّرَنُ، وَهُوَ الْوَسَخُ. وَمِنْهُ دُرَيْنَةُ، وَهُوَ نَعْتٌ لِلْأَحْمَقِ. فَأَمَّا قَوْلُهُمْ: إِنَّ الْإِدْرَوْنَ الْأَصْلُ فَكَلَامٌ قَدْ قِيلَ، وَمَا نَدْرِي مَا هُوَ.
