حفد الحَفْدُ الخِفَّةُ في الخِدْمَةِ والعَمَلِ. وفي شِعْرٍ حُفَّداً أقْدَامُها أي سِرَاعاً. والاحْتِفادُ السُّرْعَةُ، ومنه قَوْلُه نَسْعَى ونَحْفِدُ أي نَخِفُّ في مَرْضاتِكَ. والحَفَدَانُ فَوْقَ المَشْيِ؛ كالخَبَبِ. والحَفَدَةُ الخَدَمُ، وقيل وَلَدُ الوَلَدِ، وقيل البَنَاتُ. واحْتَفَدَ في مَعْنى احْتَفَلَ. ومالَكَ تُحَافِدُني بالكَلامِ أي تُنَافِرُني. وفلانٌ مَحْفُوْدٌ أي مُكْرَمٌ. ويُقال من السُّرْعَةِ حَفَدَ وَأَحْفَدَ. والمِحْفَدُ شَيْءٌ يُعْلَفُ فيه. وقيل قَدَحٌ يُكالُ به. والمَحْفِدُ السَّنَامُ. وهو أصْلُ الرَّجُلِ؛ كالمَحْتِدِ.
