حظل الحَظِلُ المُقَتِّرُ. والحَظَلانُ المَنْعُ، حَظَلَ يَحْظُلُ حَظْلاً وحَظَلاناً. والحَظُوْلُ الذي يُحَاسِبُ امْرَأتَه لِبُخْلِه. وبَعِيرٌ حَظِلٌ أكَلَ الحَنْظَلَ. والحاظِلُ الغَضْبانُ. ومَرَّ يَتَحَظَّلُ إِذا قَرْمَطَ الخَطْوَ.

(حَظَلَ) الْحَاءُ وَالظَّاءُ وَاللَّامُ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ، وَهُوَ قَرِيبٌ مِنَ الَّذِي قَبْلَهُ. فَالْحَظْلُ: الْغَيْرَةُ وَمَنْعُ الْمَرْأَةِ مِنَ التَّصَرُّفِ وَالْحَرَكَةِ. [قَالَ] :

فَيَحْظِلُ أَوْ يَغَارُ

قَالَ أَبُو عُبَيْدٍ: حَظَلْتُ عَلَيْهِ مِثْلُ حَظَرْتُ. وَيُقَالُ فِي قَوْلِهِ " فَيَحْظِلُ أَوْ يَغَارُ " إِنَّهُ التَّقْتِيرُ. وَأَحْرِ أَنْ يَكُونَ هَذَا أَصَحَّ، لِأَنَّهُ قَالَ " أَوْ يَغَارُ ". وَالتَّقْتِيرُ يَرْجِعُ إِلَى الَّذِي ذَكَرْنَاهُ مِنَ الْمَنْعِ. وَالدَّلِيلُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُمْ حَظَلَانُ وَحَظْلَانُ. قَالَ:

تُعَيِّرُنِي الْحِظْلَانَ أُمُّ مُغَلِّسٍ ... فَقُلْتُ لَهَا لِمَ تَقْذِفِينِي بِدَائِيَا
