(هَمَزَ) الْهَاءُ وَالْمِيمُ وَالزَّاءُ كَلِمَةٌ تَدُلُّ عَلَى ضَغْطٍ وَعَصْرٍ. وَهَمَزْتُ الشَّيْءَ فِي كَفِّي. وَمِنْهُ الْهَمْزُ فِي الْكَلَامِ، كَأَنَّهُ يَضْغَطُ الْحَرْفَ. وَيَقُولُونَ: هَمَزَ بِهِ الْأَرْضَ. وَقَوْسٌ هَمْزَى: شَدِيدَةُ الدَّفْعِ لِلسَّهْمِ. وَالْهَمَّازُ: الْعَيَّابُ، وَكَذَا الْهُمَزَةُ. قَالَ:

تُدْلِي بِوُدِّيَ إِذْ لَاقَيْتَنِي كَذِبًا ... وَإِنْ أُغَيَّبْ فَأَنْتَ الْهَامِزُ اللُّمَزَهْ

وَهَمْزُ الشَّيْطَانِ كَالْمُوتَةِ تَغْلِبُ عَلَى قَلْبِ الْإِنْسَانِ تَذْهَبُ بِهِ
