(هلع) - في حديث هشام في صِفَة ناقة: "إنها لَمِسْيَاعٌ هِلْواعٌ" الهِلْواعُ: التي فيها نَزَقٌ وخِفَّةٌ؛ أي سَريعة حدِيدَةٌ؛ مِن قَولهم: هَلِع: إذا جَزَعَ وخَفَّ؛ وَهو مبالغة الهَلَع. والهَوالِعُ: النَّعامُ لِسُرعَتِها وحِدَّتِها.

(هَلَعَ) الْهَاءُ وَاللَّامُ وَالْعَيْنُ: يَدُلُّ عَلَى سُرْعَةٍ وَحِدَّةٍ. وَنَاقَةٌ هِلْوَاعٌ: حَدِيدَةٌ سَرِيعَةٌ. وَنَعَامَةٌ هَالِعٌ كَذَلِكَ. وَمِنْهُ الْهَلَعُ فِي الْإِنْسَانِ: شِبْهُ الْحِرْصِ. وَرَجُلٌ هَلِعٌ وَهَلُوعٌ.

قَالَ ابْنُ السِّكِّيتِ: رَجُلٌ هُلْعَةٌ يَهْلَعُ وَيَجْزَعُ سَرِيعًا. وَيُقَالُ: مَا لَهُ هِلَّعٌ وَلَا هِلَّعَةٌ، أَيْ جَدْيٌ وَلَا عَنَاقٌ، وَسُمِّيَا بِذَلِكَ لِنَزَقِهِمَا.
