(نَكَصَ) النُّونُ وَالْكَافُ وَالصَّادُ كَلِمَةٌ. يُقَالُ: نَكَصَ عَلَى عَقِبَيْهِ، إِذَا أَحْجَمَ عَنِ الشَّيْءِ خَوْفًا وَجُبْنًا. قَالَ ابْنُ دُرَيْدٍ: نَكَصَ عَلَى عَقِبَيْهِ: رَجَعَ عَمَّا كَانَ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ خَيْرٍ ; لَا يُقَالُ ذَلِكَ إِلَّا فِي الرُّجُوعِ عَنِ الْخَيْرِ.
