قدو



قُدْوَةٌ and قِدْوَةٌ (S, Msb, K,) and قَدْوَةٌ (K,) A pattern; an exemplar; an example; an object of imitation; one who is, or is to be, imitated. (S, Msb, K, TA.) See إِسْوَةٌ.

قِدْيَهٌ

: see فِدْيَهٌ.

قَادِيَةٌ The first that come to one, or come upon one, of a company of men. (TA in art. طحم.)

(قَدَوَ) الْقَافُ وَالدَّالُ وَالْحَرْفُ الْمُعْتَلُّ أَصْلٌ صَحِيحٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى اقْتِبَاسٍ بِالشَّيْءِ وَاهْتِدَاءٍ، وَمُقَادَرَةٍ فِي الشَّيْءِ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ بِهِ مُسَاوِيًا لِغَيْرِهِ. مِنْ ذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُمْ: هَذَا قِدَى رُمْحٍ، أَيْ قَيْسُهُ. وَفُلَانٌ قُِدْوَةٌ: يُقْتَدَى بِهِ.

وَيَقُولُونَ: إِنَّ الْقَدْوَ: الْأَصْلُ الَّذِي يَتَشَعَّبُ مِنْهُ الْفُرُوعُ. وَمِنَ الْبَابِ: فُلَانٌ يَقْدُو بِهِ فَرَسُهُ، إِذَا لَزِمَ سُنَنَ السِّيرَةِ. وَإِنَّمَا سُمِّيَ قَدْوًا لِأَنَّهُ تَقْدِيرٌ فِي السَّيْرِ. وَتَقَدَّى فُلَانٌ عَلَى دَابَّتِهِ، إِذَا سَارَ سَيْرَةً عَلَى اسْتِقَامَةٍ.

وَيُقَالُ: أَتَتْنَا قَادِيَةٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ، وَهُمْ أَوَّلُ مَنْ يَطْرَأُ عَلَيْكَ. وَقَدْ قَدَتْ تَقْدِي. وَكُلُّ ذَلِكَ مِنْ تَقْدِيرِ السَّيْرِ.

وَمِمَّا شَذَّ عَنْ هَذَا الْبَابِ الْقَدْوُ: مَصْدَرُ قَدَا اللَّحْمُ يَقْدُو [قَدْوًا] وَيَقْدِي قَدْيًا، إِذَا شَمَمْتَ لَهُ رَائِحَةً طَيِّبَةً. وَيَقُولُونَ: رَجُلٌ قِنْدَأْوٌ: شَدِيدُ الظَّهْرِ قَصِيرُ الْعُنُقِ.
