1 قَدَعَ فَرَسَهُ He pulled in his horse by the bridle and bit, to stop him; (S, K;) he curbed, or restrained, him. (S.) b2: هُوَ الفَحْلُ لَا يُقْدَعُ أَنْفُهُ: see أَنْفٌ; and see قرع.

(قَدَعَ) الْقَافُ وَالدَّالُ وَالْعَيْنُ أَصْلَانِ صَحِيحَانِ مُتَبَايِنَانِ، أَحَدُهُمَا يَدُلُّ عَلَى الْكَفِّ عَنِ الشَّيْءِ، وَيَدُلُّ الْآخَرُ عَلَى التَّهَافُتِ فِي الشَّيْءِ. فَالْأَوَّلُ الْقَدْعُ، مِنْ قَدَعْتُهُ عَنِ الشَّيْءِ: كَفَفْتُهُ. وَقَدَعْتُ الذُّبَابَ: طَرَدْتُهُ عَنِّي. قَالَ:

قِيَامًا تَقَدُّعُ الذِّبَّانَ عَنْهَا ... بِأَذْنَابٍ كَأَجْنِحَةِ النُّسُورِ

وَامْرَأَةٌ قَدِعَةٌ: قَلِيلَةُ الْكَلَامِ حَيِيَّةٌ، كَأَنَّهَا كَفَّتْ نَفْسَهَا عَنِ الْكَلَامِ. وَقَدَعْتُ الْفَرَسَ بِاللِّجَامِ: كَبَحْتُهُ. وَالْمِقْدَعَةُ: الْعَصَا تَقْدَعُ بِهَا عَنْ نَفْسِكَ.

قَالَ ابْنُ دُرَيْدٍ: تَقَادَعَ الْقَوْمُ بِالرِّمَاحِ: تَطَاعَنُوا. وَقِيَاسُ ذَلِكَ كُلِّهِ وَاحِدٌ.

وَالْأَصْلُ الْآخَرُ: التَّهَافُتُ. قَالُوا: الْقَدُوعُ: الْمُنْصَبُّ عَلَى الشَّيْءِ. يُقَالُ: تَقَادَعَ الْفِرَاشُ فِي النَّارِ، إِذَا تَهَافَتَ. وَتَقَادَعَ الْقَوْمُ بَعْضُهُمْ فِي إِثْرِ بَعْضٍ: تَسَاقَطُوا. وَفِي الْحَدِيثِ فِي ذِكْرِ الصِّرَاطِ: " «فَيَتَقَادَعُونَ تَقَادُعَ الْفِرَاشِ فِي النَّارِ» ".
