صمع: صَمَع: تحريف صومع أي منارة (هلو).
صُمُعَة وتجمع على صُمَع: تحريف صَومُعَة أي قبة الجرس، برج الأجراس (فوك).
صَوْمَعَة: لا تطلق على بيت عبادة الراهب أو محبسه فقط (بوشر، همبرت ص151) بل تطلق أيضاً على الدير (كرتاس ص18) وفيه أنها مرادفة دير.
صَوْمَعة بمعنى منارة وبرج (انظر كاترمير البكري ص25) وينطقونها في الأندلس صَوْمُعَة (فوك، ألكالا، محمد بن الحارث ص262، 299) ونجد أيضاً صوموعة عند مؤلف إفريقي (الحلل ص61 ق).

من (ص م ع) جمع أَصْمَع: ذكر النعام لصغر أذنيه ولصوقها برأسه والمحدد الطرف المنضم والقلب الذكي الشجاع.

(صَمَعَ) الصَّادُ وَالْمِيمُ وَالْعَيْنُ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ، يَدُلُّ عَلَى لَطَافَةٍ فِي الشَّيْءِ وَتَضَامٍّ. قَالَ الْخَلِيلُ وَغَيْرُهُ: كُلُّ مُنْضَمٍّ فَهُوَ مُتَصَمِّعٌ. قَالَ: وَمِنْ ذَلِكَ اشْتِقَاقُ الصَّوْمَعَةِ. وَمِنْ ذَلِكَ الصَّمَعُ فِي الْأُذُنَيْنِ. يُقَالُ: هُوَ أَصْمَعُ، إِذَا كَانَ أَلْصَقَ الْأُذُنَيْنِ. وَيُقَالُ: قَلْبٌ أَصْمَعُ، أَيْ لَطِيفٌ ذَكِيٌّ. وَيُقَالُ لِلْبُهْمَى إِذَا ارْتَفَعَتْ وَلَمْ تَتَفَقَّأْ: صَمْعَاءُ. وَذَلِكَ أَنَّهَا [إِذَا] كَانَتْ كَذَا كَانَتْ مُنْضَمَّةً لَطِيفَةً. وَإِذَا تَلَطَّخَ الشَّيْءُ بِالشَّيْءِ فَتَجَمَّعَ كَرِيشِ السَّهْمِ فَهُوَ مُتَصَمِّعٌ. قَالَ: فَرَمَى فَأَنْفَذَ مِنْ نَحُوصٍ عَائِطٍ ...سَهْمًا فَخَرَّ وَرِيشَهُ مُتَصَمِّعُ

أَيْ مُتَلَطِّخٌ بِالدَّمِ مُنْضَمٌّ. وَالْكِلَابُ صُمْعُ الْكُعُوبِ، أَيْ صِغَارُهَا وَلِطَافُهَا، قَالَ النَّابِغَةُ:

صُمْعُ الْكُعُوبِ بَرِيئَاتٌ مِنَ الْحَرَدِ
