قال ابن المعلى الأزدي: شوق جبل، قاله في تفسير قول ابن مقبل:
ولاح ببرقة الأمهار منها ... لعينك نازح من ضوء نار
لمشتاق يصفّقه وقود ... كنار مجوس في الأطم المطار
ركبن جهامة بحزيز شوق ... يضئن بليلهنّ إلى النّهار

(شَوُقَ) الشِّينُ وَالْوَاوُ وَالْقَافُ يَدُلُّ عَلَى تَعَلُّقِ الشَّيْءِ بِالشَّيْءِ، يُقَالُ شُقْتُ الطُّنُبَ، أَيِ الْوَتِدَ، وَاسْمُ ذَلِكَ الْخَيْطِ الشِّيَاقُ. وَالشَّوْقُ مِثْلُ النَّوْطِ، ثُمَّ اشْتُقَّ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الشَّوْقُ، وَهُوَ نِزَاعُ النَّفْسِ إِلَى الشَّيْءِ. وَيُقَالُ شَاقَنِي يَشُوقُنِي، وَذَلِكَ لَا يَكُونُ إِلَّا عَنْ عَلَقِ حُبٍّ.
