(شهق) - في الحديث : "ليَتَردَّى من رؤوسِ شَواهِقِ الجِبال".
: أي عَواليها. يقال: جَبَلٌ شَاهِقٌ؛ أي مُنِيف عالٍ.

(شَهَقَ) الشِّينُ وَالْهَاءُ وَالْقَافُ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى عُلُوٍّ. مِنْ ذَلِكَ جَبَلٌ شَاهِقٌ، أَيْ عَالٍ. ثُمَّ اشْتُقَّ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الشَّهِيقُ: ضِدُّ الزَّفِيرِ ; لِأَنَّ الشَّهِيقَ رَدُّ النَّفَسِ، وَالزَّفِيرَ إِخْرَاجُ النَّفَسِ. وَالْأَصْلُ فِي ذَلِكَ مَا ذَكَرْنَاهُ. وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: فُلَانٌ ذُو شَاهِقٍ، إِذَا اشْتَدَّ غَضَبُهُ. وَلَعَلَّهُ أَنْ يَكُونَ مَعَ ذَلِكَ صَوْتٌ.
