شأم: شأم: مصدره شآمة (أبو الوليد ص460)، شأَم (بالتشديد)، شأَم فلاناً قام بحق اعتباره (محيط المحيط).
الشَأْم: بلاد الشام (أخبار ص45).
شَأْمَة: شُؤم، شرّ (بوشر).
شامِيّ: نوع من النسيج القطني مطبع ومشجر كان يصنع أصلاً في الهند ويسمى الهندي. (اسبينا مجلة الشرق والجزائر (13!: 153).
شامِيّ: قميص من الحرير المقلم تلبسه النساء في مرزوق (ليون ص171).
شامِيّ: نوع من الطير (ياقوت (1: 885).
شامِيات: نوع من العقاب موصوف في عوادة (ص318).

(شَأَمَ) الشِّينُ وَالْهَمْزَةُ وَالْمِيمُ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى الْجَانِبِ الْيَسَارِ. مِنْ ذَلِكَ الْمَشْأَمَةُ، وَهِيَ خِلَافُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ. وَالشَّأْمُ: أَرْضٌ عَنْ مَشْأَمَةِ الْقِبْلَةِ. يُقَالُ الشَّأْمُ وَالشَّآمُ. وَيُقَالُ رَجُلٌ شَآمٍ وَامْرَأَةٌ شَآمِيَةٌ. قَالَ:

أُمِّي شَآمِيَةً إِذْ لَا عَرَاقَ لَنَا ... قَوْمًا نَوَدُّهُمُ إِذْ قَوْمُنَا شُوسُ

وَرَجُلٌ مَشْئُومٌ مِنَ الشُّؤْمِ.

ش ء م : الشُّؤْمُ الشَّرُّ وَرَجُلٌ مَشْئُومٌ غَيْرُ مُبَارَكٍ.

وَتَشَاءَمَ الْقَوْمُ بِهِ مِثْلُ تَطَيَّرُوا بِهِ وَالشَّأْمُ بِهَمْزَةٍ سَاكِنَةٍ وَيَجُوزُ تَخْفِيفُهَا وَالنِّسْبَةُ شَأْمِيٌّ عَلَى الْأَصْلِ وَيَجُوزُ شَآمٍ بِالْمَدِّ مِنْ غَيْرِ يَاءٍ مِثْلُ يَمَنِيٍّ وَيَمَانٍ.
