ش ء م : الشُّؤْمُ الشَّرُّ وَرَجُلٌ مَشْئُومٌ غَيْرُ مُبَارَكٍ.

وَتَشَاءَمَ الْقَوْمُ بِهِ مِثْلُ تَطَيَّرُوا بِهِ وَالشَّأْمُ بِهَمْزَةٍ سَاكِنَةٍ وَيَجُوزُ تَخْفِيفُهَا وَالنِّسْبَةُ شَأْمِيٌّ عَلَى الْأَصْلِ وَيَجُوزُ شَآمٍ بِالْمَدِّ مِنْ غَيْرِ يَاءٍ مِثْلُ يَمَنِيٍّ وَيَمَانٍ.

a. ['Ala], Brought ill-luck.
شَأَّمَa. Sent to Syria.
