(زَعَبَ) الزَّاءُ وَالْعَيْنُ وَالْبَاءُ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى الدَّفْعِ وَالتَّدَافُعِ. يُقَالُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الزَّعْبُ الدَّفْعُ. يُقَالُ زَعَبْتُ لَهُ زَعْبَةً مِنَ الْمَالِ. قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «وَأَزْعَبُ لَكَ زَعْبَةً مِنَ الْمَالِ» . وَيُقَالُ جَاءَ سَيْلٌ يَزْعَبُ الْوَادِيَ هَذَا غَيْرُ مُعْجَمٍ إِذَا مَلَأَهُ. وَجَاءَ سَيْلٌ يَزْعَبُ، بِالزَّاءِ، إِذَا تَدَافَعَ. وَيُقَالُ إِنَّ الزَّاعِبَ السَّيَّاحُ فِي الْأَرْضِ. قَالَ ابْنُ هَرْمَةَ:

يَكَادُ يَهْلِكُ فِيهَا الزَّاعِبُ الْهَادِي

وَالزَّاعِبِيَّةُ: الرِّمَاحُ. قَالَ الْخَلِيلُ: هِيَ مَنْسُوبَةٌ إِلَى زَاعِبٍ. وَلَمْ يَظْهَرْ عِلْمُ زَاعِبٍ: أَرَجُلٌ أَمْ بَلَدٌ، إِلَّا أَنْ يُوَلِّدَهُ مُوَلِّدٌ. وَقَالَ غَيْرُهُ: الزَّاعِبِيُّ هُوَ الَّذِي إِذَا هُزَّ تَدَافَعَ مِنْ أَوَّلِهِ إِلَى آخِرِهِ، كَأَنَّ ذَلِكَ مَقِيسٌ عَلَى تَزَاعُبِ الْمَاءِ فِي الْوَادِي، وَهُوَ تَدَافُعُهُ. وَهَذَا هُوَ الصَّحِيحُ. وَيُقَالُ زَعَبَ الرَّجُلُ الْمَرْأَةَ، إِذَا جَامَعَهَا. وَهَذَا هُوَ بِالرَّاءِ أَحْسَنُ. وَقَدْ مَضَى.

وَبَقِيَ فِي الْبَابِ كَلِمَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ إِنْ صَحَّتْ فَهِيَ مِنْ بَابِ الْإِبْدَالِ. يَقُولُونَ: الزُّعْبُوبُ الْقَصِيرُ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ، وَلَعَلَّهُ أَنْ يَكُونَ الذُّعْبُوبَ.
