روب: تَروَّب: تخثَّر، صار رائباً (بوشر)، وفي معجم فوك تَرَيَّب، لأن الحرف الثاني من هذه الكلمة (روب) هو الياء في لغة العامة.
روب: نوع من الطير (ياقوت 1: 885)، وعند القزويني: زوب بالزاء.
روبة: موحل، مجمع وحل (بوشر).
رَيِّب: رائب (فوك).
مَرْوَبَة: إناء يروَّب فيه اللبن (محيط المحيط).

(س) فِي حَدِيثِ الْبَاقِرِ «أتَجْعلون فِي النَّبيذ الدُّرْدِيَّ؟ قِيلَ: وَمَا الدُّرْدِيُّ؟ قَالَ الرُّوبَةُ، قَالُوا: نَعَمْ» الرُّوبَةُ فِي الأصْل خَميرة اللَّبَن، ثُمَّ تُسْتعمل فِي كُلِّ مَا أصْلح شَيْئًا، وَقَدْ تُهمز.
وَمِنْهُ الْحَدِيثُ «لَا شَوْبَ وَلَا رَوْبَ فِي البَيع والشَّراء» أَيْ لَا غِشَّ وَلَا تَخْليط. وَمِنْهُ قِيلَ للَّبن المْمخُوض: رَائِبٌ؛ لِأَنَّهُ يُخْلط بِالْمَاءِ عِنْدَ المخْض ليَخْرج زُبْده.

( [رَوَبَ] ) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . أَعِرْنِي رُؤْبَةَ فَرَسِكَ. وَيُقَالُ: فُلَانٌ لَا يَقُومُ بِرُوبَةِ أَهْلِهِ، أَيْ بِمَا أَسْنَدُوهُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ حَاجَاتِهِمْ، كَأَنَّهُ شُبِّهَ ذَلِكَ بِاللَّبَنِ. وَقَالَ ابْنُ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ: رُوبَةُ الرَّجُلِ: عَقْلُهُ. قَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ وَهُوَ يُحَدِّثُنِي: وَأَنَا إِذْ ذَاكَ غُلَامٌ لَيْسَتْ لِي رُوبَةٌ. فَأَمَّا الْهَمْزَةُ الَّتِي فِي رُؤْبَةَ فَهِيَ تَجِيءُ فِي بَابِهِ.
