[دنف] الدَنفُ بالتحريك: المرضُ الملازمُ. ورجلٌ دَنَفٌ أيضاً وامرأةٌ دَنَفٌ وقومٌ دَنَفٌ، يستوي فيه المذكر والمؤمث، والتثنية والجمع. فإن قلت رجلٌ دَنِفٌ بكسر النون قلت امرأةٌ دَنِفَةٌ، أَنَّثْتَ وثَنَّيْتَ وجمعتَ. وقد دَنِفَ المريضُ بالكسر، أي ثقُل. وأَدْنَفَ بالألف مثله. وأَدْنَفَهُ المرضُ، يتعدَّى، ولا يتعدى، فهو مُدْنِفٌ ومُدْنَفٌ. ويقال أيضاً: دَنَفَتِ الشمس وأذنفت، إذا دنت للمغيب واصفرت. ومنه قول العجاج: والشمس قد كادتْ تكون دَنَفا أَدْفَعُها بالراح كى تزحلفا
