(دَمَكَ) الدَّالُ وَالْمِيمُ وَالْكَافُ يَدُلُّ عَلَى مَعْنَيَيْنِ: أَحَدُهُمَا الشِّدَّةُ، وَالْآخَرُ السُّرْعَةُ; وَرُبَّمَا اجْتَمَعَ الْمَعْنَيَانِ.

فَأَمَّا الشِّدَّةُ فَالدَّمَكْمَكُ: الشَّدِيدُ. وَالدَّامِكَةُ: الدَّاهِيَةُ وَالْأَمْرُ الْعَظِيمُ. وَالْمِدْمَاكُ: الْخَشَبَةُ تَكُونُ تَحْتَ قَدَمَيِ السَّاقِي.

وَأَمَّا الْآخَرُ فَيُقَالُ إِنَّهُمْ يَقُولُونَ دَمَكَتِ الْأَرْنَبُ، إِذَا أَسْرَعَتْ فِي عَدْوِهَا. وَالدَّمُوكُ: الْبَكَْرَةُ الْعَظِيمَةُ. فَقَدِ اجْتَمَعَ فِيهَا الْمَعْنَيَانِ: الشِّدَّةُ، وَالسُّرْعَةُ. وَالدَّمُوكُ: الرَّحَى. وَهِيَ فِي الْمَعْنَى وَالْبَكَْرَةِ سَوَاءٌ.
