حير
يقال: حَارَ يَحَارُ حَيْرَة، فهو حَائِر وحَيْرَان، وتَحَيَّرَ واسْتَحَارَ: إذا تبلّد في الأمر وتردّد فيه، قال تعالى: كَالَّذِي اسْتَهْوَتْهُ الشَّياطِينُ فِي الْأَرْضِ حَيْرانَ [الأنعام/ 71] ، والحائر:
الموضع الذي يتحيّر به الماء، قال الشاعر:
واستحار شبابها
وهو أن يمتلئ حتى يرى في ذاته حيرة، والحيرة: موضع، قيل سمّي بذلك لاجتماع ماء كان فيه.
