[ثعب] ثعبت الماء ثعبا: فجرته: والثَّعَبُ، بالتحريك: مسيلُ الماء في الوادي، وجمعه ثُعْبانٌ. والثعبان أيضاً: ضربٌ من الحيَّاتِ طوالٌ، والجمع ثعابينٌ. والثُعْبَةٌ: ضربٌ من الوَزَغِ. والمثعب، بالفتح: واحد مثاعب الحياض. وانْثَعَبَ الماءُ: جرى في المَثْعَبِ. وانثعب الدم من الانف. قال الأصمعي: فوهُ يَجْري ثعابيبَ وَسعابيبَ، وهو أن يجريَ منه ماءٌ صاف فيه تمدد.
