[شتا] الشِتاءُ معروف. قال المبرّد: هو جمع شَتْوَةٍ. وجمع الشِتاءِ أَشْتِيَةٌ. والنسبة إليها شَتْوِيٌّ وشَتَوِيٌّ مثل خرفى وخرفى. وشَتَوْتُ بموضع كذا وتَشَتَّيْتُ: أقمت به الشِتاءَ. وأَشْتى القوم: دخلوا في الشتاء. قال الكسائي: عاملته مُشاتَاةً، من الشتاء. والشتى على فعيل والشتوى: مطر الشتاء. وقال النمر بن تولب يصف روضةً: عَزَبَتْ وبَاكَرَها الشَتِيُّ بِدِيْمَةٍ * وَطْفاَء تملؤها إلى أَصْبارِها وهذا الشئ يشتينى، أي يكفيني لشتائى. (*) وقال الراجز يصف بتا له: من يك ذا بت فهذا بتى * مقيظ مصيف مشتى
