دث: دُثَّ فلانٌ دَثَّةً، وذلك التِواءٌ في جنبه وبعض جَسَده. والتَّدثيث: التَّليين، ودَثَثتُ الأمرَ الصَّعْبَ ودَثَّيْتُه: لَيَّنْتُه. والدَّيايِثةُ جمعُ الدَّيُّوث، وهو المُحْتَمِلُ لِما ينالُه من سوء في حرمته.
