من (ف ت ل) نسبة إلى الفتائل بتسهيل الهمزة جمع الفتيلة بمعنى ذبالة السراج، وتستخدم في بعض اللهجات المعاصرة جمع الفتلة وهي القطعة من خيط القطن أو الحرير ونحوهما.
