من (و ز ر) المعين والمساعد، ورجل الدولة الذي يختاره رئيس الحكومة للمشاركة في إدارة شئون الدولة؛ وعن التركية وزير كلمة فارسية أصلها فهلوية من المصدر بمعنى المبت في الأمر والكلمة بمعنى من يبدي الرأي ويبت في الأمر.
