وكيف غربي دالج تبجّسا

ودمع واكف، ومنحة وكوف: غزيرة. وهذا الأمر وكفٌ عليك: عيبٌ.

ومن المجاز: فلان يتوكّف الأخبار، نحو: يستقطر الأخبار.

(وَكَفَ) الْوَاوُ وَالْكَافُ وَالْفَاءُ: أَصْلٌ صَحِيحٌ لَيْسَتْ كَلِمُهُ عَلَى قِيَاسٍ وَاحِدٍ. فَالْوَكْفُ وَكْفُ الْبَيْتِ، وَهُوَ الْوَكِيفُ أَيْضًا. وَاسْتَوْكَفَ: اسْتَقْطَرَ. وَالْوِكَافُ لُغَةٌ فِي الْإِكَافِ. وَالْوَكَفُ: الْإِثْمُ وَالْعَيْبُ. وَالتَّوَكُّفُ: التَّوَقُّعُ، وَلَعَلَّهُ أَصْلُهُ انْتِظَارُ الْوَكْفِ. وَالْوَكَفُ: مُطْمَئِنٌّ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ. وَوَكَفُ الْجَبَلِ: أَسَافِلُهُ قَالَ:

يَعْلُو دَكَاكِيكَ وَيَعْلُو وَكَفَا

وَالْوَكْفُ النِّطْعُ.سَ فِي هَذَا الْأَمْرِ وَكَفٌ، أَيْ فَسَادٌ وَضَعْفٌ.
