1 وَتَبَ, aor. ـِ inf. n. وَتْبٌ, He remained fixed in the place, and did not move. (K.) Omitted by most of the lexicographers; and said by some to be a word mispronounced [app. for وَثَبَ]. (TA.)

: ( {وَتَبَ) بالمُثَنّاة الفوقيّة، وَقد أَهمله الجَوْهَريُّ. وَقَالَ ابْن دُرَيْد: وَتَب (} يَتِبُ {وَتْباً) : إِذا (ثَبَتَ فِي المَكَانِ، فلمْ يَزُلْ) . وهاذه المادّة مَكْتُوبَة عندَنَا بالأَسْوَد، بِنَاء على أَنّه ممّا ذكرهَا الجَوهريُّ، وَلَيْسَ هُوَ فِي الصّحاح؛ بل أَهمله الأَكثرونَ، وَقيل: هُوَ لثْغَةٌ.
