(همهم) - في حديث ظَبْيان: "خَرج رَجُلٌ في الظُّلْمةِ فسَمِع هَمْهَمَةً"
أصل الهَمْهَمَةِ: صَوتُ البَقَر والفِيَلَةِ، ثم هي كلام خَفِىٌّ لا يُفْهَمُ.

[همهم] فيه: فسمع "همهمة"، أي كلاما خفيًا لا يفهم، وأصل الهمهمة صوت البقر. غ: "تهمهم" رأسه فلاهن ويقولون: نعم الهامة هذا - يعني الفرس. ط: وفي ح الدجال: تحت قطيفة "يهمهم"، هو ترديد الصوت في الصدر، وهنا عبارة عن كلام خفي لا يفهم منه شيء.
