هوّر البناء فتهوّر: هدمه. وهار الجرف وانهار وتهوّر، وجرف هائر وهارٍ.

ومن المجاز: تهوّر الليل وتهوّر الشتاء: أدبر. وفلان يتهوّر في الأمور: يقع فيها من غير فكرٍ. وإنّ فيه لهورةً. وإنه لهير.

(هَوَرَ) الْهَاءُ وَالْوَاوُ وَالرَّاءُ: أَصْلٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى تَسَاقُطِ شَيْءٍ. مِنْهُ تَهَوَّرَ الْبِنَاءُ: انْهَدَمَ. وَتَهَوَّرَ اللَّيْلُ: انْكَسَرَ ظَلَامُهُ، كَأَنَّهُ تَهَدَّمَ وَمَرَّ. وَتَهَوَّرَ الشِّتَاءُ: ذَهَبَ أَشَدُّهُ. وَيَقُولُونَ لِلْقَطِيعِ مِنَ الْغَنَمِ: هَوْرٌ ; وَهُوَ صَحِيحٌ لِأَنَّهُ مِنْ كَثْرَتِهِ يَتَسَاقَطُ بَعْضُهُ عَلَى بَعْضٍ.

وَمِمَّا شَذَّ عَنِ الْبَابِ قَوْلُهُمْ: هُرْتُ فُلَانًا بِكَذَا أَهُورُهُ: أَزْنَنْتُهُ بِهِ. قَالَ:

رَأَى أَنَّنِي لَا بِالْكَثِيرِ أَهُورُهُ
