هلس: في (محيط المحيط): (الهلْس مصدر والخير الكثير .. والضمور ومرض السل. ومن الكلام غير الواضح والذي لا طائل تحته. وهذه من كلام العوام).
هلسة: ستر، قليل، ترهة، عبث، لغو (بقطر).
هلّوس: نسيج العنكبوت (بقطر).

(هَلَسَ) الْهَاءُ وَاللَّامُ وَالسِّينُ يَدُلُّ عَلَى إِخْفَاءِ شَيْءٍ: مِنْ كَلَامٍ وَغَيْرِهِ. يُقَالُ: أَهْلَسَ فِي الضَّحِكِ: أَخْفَاهُ. قَالَ:

تَضْحَكُ مِنِّي ضَحِكًا إِهْلَاسَا

وَهَالَسَ فُلَانًا: سَارَّهُ. وَالْمَهْلُوسُ: الضَّعِيفُ الْعَقْلِ، وَهُوَ الْقِيَاسُ. وَالْهُلَاسُ [شِبْهُ السُّلَالِ مِنَ الْهُزَالِ] ، كَأَنَّ لَحْمَهُ خَفِيَ وَتَوَارَى.

وَمِمَّا شَذَّ عَنِ الْبَابِ الْهَلْسُ: الْخَيْرُ الْكَثِيرُ.
