(هَكَعَ) الْهَاءُ وَالْكَافُ وَالْعَيْنُ يَدُلُّ عَلَى تَطَامُنٍ وَخُضُوعٍ. وَهَكَعَتِ الْبَقَرُ تَحْتَ ظِلِّ الشَّجَرِ مِنْ شِدَّةِ الْحَرِّ: سَكَنَتْ. وَيُقَالُ لِلْعَظْمِ إِذَا انْكَسَرَ بَعْدَ جَبْرٍ: قَدْ هَكَعَ. وَاهْتَكَعَ الرَّجُلُ: خَشَعَ. وَهَكَعَ اللَّيْلُ: أَرْخَى سُدُولَهُ. وَذَهَبَ فَمَا يُدْرَى أَيْنَ هَكَعَ، كَأَنَّهُ اسْتَخْفَى وَتَوَارَى، كَمَا تَهَقَّعَ الْبَقَرُ. وَالْهُكْعَةُ: الرَّجُلُ الْعَاجِزُ يَهْكَعُ لِكُلٍّ، أَيْ يَخْشَعُ. وَيَقُولُونَ: الْهُكَاعُ: السُّعَالُ. وَهَكَعَ يَهْكَعُ هُكَاعًا: سَعَلَ.
