هقلس: الهِقْلِسُ: السيء الخُلُق. والهَقالس والهَجارس: الثعالب.

والهَقَلَّس: الذئب في ضر؛ قال الكميت:

وتسمَعُ أَصْواتَ الفَراعِل حَوْلَه،

يُعاوينَ أَولادَ الذِّئابِ الهَقالِسا

يعني حول الماء الذي ورَدَهُ.
