(هَفَا) الْهَاءُ وَالْفَاءُ وَالْحَرْفُ الْمُعْتَلُّ: أَصْلٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى ذَهَابِ شَيْءٍ فِي خِفَّةٍ وَسُرْعَةٍ. وَهَفَا الشَّيْءُ فِي الْهَوَاءِ يَهْفُو، إِذَا ذَهَبَ، كَالصُّوفَةِ وَنَحْوِهَا. وَهَفَا الظَّلِيمُ: عَدَا. وَهَفَا الْقَلْبُ فِي إِثْرِ الشَّيْءِ. وَهَوَافِي النَّعَمِ: ضُلَّالُهُ. وَهَفَا الْإِنْسَانُ يَهْفُو: زَلَّ وَذَهَبَ عَنِ الصَّوَابِ، وَكَذَلِكَ هَفَا، إِذَا جَاعَ. وَالْهَفْوَةُ: الزَّلَّةُ.
