(هَدَلَ) الْهَاءُ وَالدَّالُ وَاللَّامُ: أَصْلَانِ صَحِيحَانِ: أَحَدُهُمَا يَدُلُّ عَلَى اسْتِرْخَاءٍ فِي شَيْءٍ، وَالْآخَرُ عَلَى ضَرْبٍ مِنَ الصَّوْتِ.

فَالْأَوَّلُ: الْهَدَلُ: اسْتِرْخَاءُ مِشْفَرِ الْبَعِيرِ وَكُلِّ شَيْءٍ. يُقَالُ مِنْهُ هَدِلَ. وَهَدَلْتُ الشَّيْءَ أَهْدِلُهُ، إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَهُ إِلَى أَسْفَلَ. وَالْهَدَالُ: كُلُّ غُصْنٍ نَبَتَ مُسْتَقِيمًا فِي أَرَاكَةٍ أَوْ طَلْحَةٍ. وَالصَّحِيحُ أَنْ يُقَالَ ثَمَّ: يَتَهَدَّلُ. قَالَ:

يَدْعُو الْهَدِيلَ وَسَاقَ حُرٍّ فَوْقَهُ ... أُصُلًا بِأَوْدِيَةٍ ذَوَاتِ هَدَالِ

وَيُقَالُ: الْهَدِيلُ: فَرْخُ الْحَمَامِ. فَإِنْ كَانَ كَذَا فَكَأَنَّهُ سُمِّيَ بِصَوْتِهِ. قَالَ:

فَقُلْتُ أَتَبْكِي ذَاتُ شَجْوٍ تَذَكَّرَتْ ...لًا وَقَدْ أَوْدَى وَمَا كَانَ تُبَّعُ
