(نَكَثَ) النُّونُ وَالْكَافُ وَالثَّاءُ أَصْلٌ صَحِيحٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى نَقْضِ شَيْءٍ. وَنَكَثَ الْعَهْدَ يَنْكُثُهُ نَكْثًا. وَانْتَكَثَ الشَّيْءُ: انْتَقَضَ. وَقَالَ قَوْلًا لَا نَكِيثَةَ فِيهِ، أَيْ لَا خُلْفَ. وَمِنْهُ: طَلَبَ حَاجَةً ثُمَّ انْتَكَثَ لِأُخْرَى. كَأَنَّهُ نَقَضَ عَزْمَهُ الْأَوَّلَ. وَالنِّكْثُ: أَنْ تُنْقَضَ أَخْلَاقُ الْأَكْسِيَةِ وَتُغْزَلَ ثَانِيَةً، وَبِهَا سُمِّيَ الرَّجُلُ نِكْثًا. وَالنَّكِيثَةُ: خُطَّةٌ صَعْبَةٌ يَنْكُثُ فِيهَا الْقَوْمُ. قَالَ طَرَفَةُ:

مَتَى يَكُ أَمْرٌ لِلنَّكِيثَةِ أَشْهَدِ.
