نهسته الحيّة ونهشته، ومنه: النّهشل: الذئب. ونهس اللحم وانتهسه: أخذه بمقدّم فيه. ونسر منهس. وأرض كثيرة المناهس والمعالق أي المآكل والمراتع تعلق في الجنّة. قال:

مشيطنةٌ علّلتها بزمامها ... وليس لها في عرصة الدار منهس
