بفتح أوله، وسكون ثانيه، وضم السين، وآخره نون، قالوا: الميس المجون، والميس أيضا: التّبختر في المشي، والميس: من أجود الشجر وأصلبه، وميسون: اسم بلد واسم أمّ يزيد ابن معاوية بن أبي سفيان أيضا.
