(مَدَرَ) الْمِيمُ وَالدَّالُ وَالرَّاءُ أَصْلٌ صَحِيحٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى طِينٍ مُتَحَبِّبٍ، ثُمَّ يُشَبَّهُ [بِهِ] . فَالْمَدَرُ مَعْرُوفٌ، وَالْوَاحِدَةُ مَدَرَةٌ، وَرُبَّمَا قَالُوا: سُمِّيَتِ الْبَلْدَةُ مَدَرَةٌ. قَالَ:

لَيْلًا وَمَا نَادَى أَذِينَ الْمَدَرَهْ

وَالْمَدْرُ: تَطْيِينُكَ وَجْهَ الْحَوْضِ بِالطِّينِ، وَهُوَ الْمَدَرُ الْمَبْلُولُ بَلًّا بِالْمَاءِ. وَمَكَانُ ذَلِكَ الطِّينِ مَمْدَرَةٌ. وَالْأَمْدَرُ مِنَ الضِّبَاعِ، لَوْنُهُ لَوْنُ الْمَدَرِ. وَيُقَالُ: رَجُلٌ أَمْدَرُ: عَظِيمُ الْجَنْبَيْنِ، وَأَظُنُّهُ مِنْ تَرَاكُمِ اللَّحْمِ عَلَيْهِ، كَأَنَّهُ مَدَرٌ.
