مَعَ [generally thus in all cases] is a word, or noun, (S, K,) or particle, (K,) denoting concomitance, (S, K,) &c. (K.) It is said to denote the commencement of concomitance, though this is not invariably the case. (MF and TA, voce فِى.) b2: جِئْتُ مَعَ العَصْرِ meansعِنْدَ العَصْرِ. (Mughnee.)

(مَعَ) الْمِيمُ وَالْعَيْنُ كَلِمَةٌ تَدُلُّ عَلَى اخْتِلَاطٍ وَجَلَبَةٍ وَمَا أَشْبَهَ ذَلِكَ. مِنْهُ الْمَعْمَعَةُ: صَوْتُ الْحَرِيقِ وَصَوْتُ الشُّجْعَانِ فِي الْحَرْبِ. وَالْمَعْمَعَانُ: شِدَّةُ الْحَرِّ. قَالَ ذُو الرُّمَّةِ: حَتَّى إِذَا مَعْمَعَانُ الصَّيْفِ هَبَّ لَهُ ... بِأَجَّةٍ نَشَّ عَنْهَا الْمَاءُ وَالرُّطُبُ

وَمِمَّا لَيْسَ مِنْ هَذَا الْبَابِ " مَعَ "، وَهِيَ كَلِمَةُ مُصَاحَبَةٍ، يُقَالُ: هَذَا مَعَ ذَاكَ. وَيَقُولُونَ فِي صِفَةِ النِّسَاءِ: " مِنْهُنَّ مَعْمَعْ، لَهَا شَيْئَهَا أَجْمَعْ "، وَهِيَ الَّتِي لَا تُعْطِي أَحَدًا شَيْئًا يَكُونُ مَعَهَا أَبَدًا.
