مطانوة: مطانوة: هي (متانواس باليونانية): وهي في الاصطلاحات الكنسية اليونانية، ومن ثم القبطية، تستعمل بمعنى: سجود، انبطاح؛ ومن هنا قيل ضربوا له المطانوة أي (عفروا جبينهم بين يديه) (كاترمير، أبحاث عن مصر 1: 248).
