(مَرِضَ) الْمِيمُ وَالرَّاءُ وَالضَّادُ أَصْلٌ صَحِيحٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى مَا يَخْرُجُ بِهِ الْإِنْسَانُ عَنْ حَدِّ الصِّحَّةِ فِي أَيِّ شَيْءٍ كَانَ. مِنْهُ الْعِلَّةُ. مَرِضَ وَ. . . يَمْرَضُ. وَجَمْعُ الْمَرِيضِ مَرْضَى. وَأَمْرَضَهُ: أَعَلَّهُ. وَمَرَّضَهُ: أَحْسَنَ الْقِيَامَ عَلَيْهِ فِي مَرَضِهِ. وَشَمْسٌ مَرِيضَةٌ، إِذَا لَمْ تَكُنْ مُشْرِقَةً، وَيَكُونُ ذَلِكَ لِهَبْوَةٍ فِي وَجْهِهَا. وَالنِّفَاقُ مَرَضٌ فِي قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى: فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ مَرَضٌ وَقَالَ فَيَطْمَعَ الَّذِي فِي قَلْبِهِ مَرَضٌ، قَالُوا: أَرَادَ الْقَهْرَ. وَقَدْ قُلْنَا: الْمَرَضُ: كُلُّ شَيْءٍ خَرَجَ بِهِ الْإِنْسَانُ عَنْ حَدِّ الصِّحَّةِ. وَقِيَاسُهُ مُطَّرِدٌ.

وَقَالُوا: مَرَّضَ فِي الْحَاجَةِ: قَصَّرَ وَلَمْ يَصِحَّ عَزْمُهُ فِيهَا. وَقَدْ شَذَّتْ عَنْ هَذَا الْقِيَاسِ كَلِمَةٌ، وَهِيَ مِنَ الْمُشْكِلِ عِنْدَنَا، يَقُولُونَ: أَمْرَضَ إِذَا قَارَبَ إِصَابَةَ حَاجَتِهِ. قَالَ:

وَلَكِنْ تَحْتَ ذَاكَ الشَّيْبِ حَزْمٌ ... إِذَا مَا ظَنَّ أَمْرَضَ أَوْ أَصَابَا.
