(مَتَحَ) الْمِيمُ وَالتَّاءُ وَالْحَاءُ أُصَيْلٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى مَدِّ الشَّيْءِ وَإِطَالَتِهِ. وَمَتَحَ النَّهَارُ: امْتَدَّ. وَلَيْلٌ مَتَّاحٌ: طَوِيلٌ. وَمِنْهُ الْمَتْحُ وَهُوَ الِاسْتِقَاءُ ; مَتَحَ يَمْتَحُ مَتْحًا، وَهُوَ مَاتِحٌ وَمَتُوحٌ. وَإِنَّمَا قِيلَ ذَلِكَ لِمَدِّ الرِّشَاءِ. وَبِئْرٌ مَتُوحٌ: قَرِيبَةُ الْمَنْزَعِ.
