(لَمَسَ) اللَّامُ وَالْمِيمُ وَالسِّينُ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى تَطَلُّبِ شَيْءٍ وَمَسِيسِهِ أَيْضًا. تَقُولُ: تَلَمَّسْتُ الشَّيْءَ، إِذَا تَطَلَّبْتَهُ بِيَدِكَ. قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ دُرَيْدٍ: اللَّمْسُ أَصْلُهُ بِالْيَدِ لِيُعْرَفَ مَسُّ الشَّيْءِ، ثُمَّ كَثُرَ ذَلِكَ حَتَّى صَارَ كُلُّ طَالِبٍ مُلْتَمِسًا. وَلَمَسْتُ، إِذَا مَسِسْتَ. قَالُوا: وَكُلُّ مَاسٍّ لَامِسٌ. قَالَ اللَّهُ سُبْحَانَهُ: {أَوْ لَامَسْتُمُ النِّسَاءَ} [النساء: 43] ، قَالَ قَوْمٌ: أُرِيدَ بِهِ الْجِمَاعُ. وَذَهَبَ قَوْمٌ إِلَى أَنَّهُ الْمَسِيسُ، وَأَنَّ اللَّمْسَ وَالْمُلَامَسَةَ يَكُونُ بِغَيْرِ جِمَاعٍ. وَأَنْشَدُوا:

لَمَسْتُ بِكَفِّي كَفَّهُ أَبْتَغِي الْغِنَى ... وَلَمْ أَدْرِ أَنَّ الْجُودَ مِنْ كَفِّهِ يُعْدِي

وَهَذَا شِعْرٌ لَا يُحْتَجُّ بِهِ. وَاللَّمَاسَةُ: الطَّلِبَةُ وَالْحَاجَةُ. وَيُقَالُ: " لَا يَمْنَعُ يَدَ لَامِسٍ "، إِذَا لَمْ تَكُنْ فِيهِ مَنْفَعَةٌ وَلَا لَهُ دِفَاعٌ. قَالَ:

وَلَوْلَاهُمُ لَمْ تَدْفَعُوا كَفَّ لَامِسِ.
