اللَّفيفُ: أنْ تلفَّ الحَرْف بالحَرْف أي تُدْغم لأنَّ العَيَّ أصْلُهُ العَوْيُ فاستتْقلوا إظهارَ الواو مع الياء المتحرِّكة.. فحوَّلُوها ياء وأدغمُوها فيها.
