(لَدَمَ) اللَّامُ وَالدَّالُ وَالْمِيمُ أَصْلٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى إِلْصَاقِ شَيْءٍ بِشَيْءٍ، ضَرْبًا أَوْ غَيْرَهُ، فَاللَّدْمُ: ضَرْبُ الْحَجَرِ بِالْحَجَرِ. قَالَ:

وَلِلْفُؤَادِ وَجِيبٌ تَحْتَ أَبْهَرِهِ ... لَدْمَ الْغُلَامِ وَرَاءَ الْغَيْبِ بِالْحَجَرِ

وَالْتَدَمَ النِّسَاءُ: ضَرَبْنَ وُجُوهَهُنَّ وَصُدُورَهُنَّ فِي الْمَنَاحَةِ. وَاللَّدْمُ: ضَرْبُكَ خُبْزَ الْمَلَّةِ. وَالْمَلَادِيمُ: الْمَرَاضِيخُ يُرْضَخُ بِهَا النَّوَى. وَالْتَدَمَتْ عَلَيْهِ الْحُمَّى: لَازَمَتْهُ. وَلِذَلِكَ يُقَالُ لِلْحُمَّى: أُمُّ مِلْدَمٍ. وَيَقُولُونَ: الْمُلَدَّمُ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ: الْأَحْمَقُ. وَاللَّامُ فِي هَذَا مُبْدَلَةٌ مِنْ رَاءٍ، [كَأَنَّهُ] كَانَ مُتَخَرِّقًا فَرُدِّمَ، أَيْ رُقِّعَ.
