(قَهَوَ) الْقَافُ وَالْهَاءُ وَالْحَرْفُ الْمُعْتَلُّ أَصْلٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى خِصَبٍ وَكَثْرَةٍ. يُقَالُ لِلرَّجُلِ الْمُخْصِبِ الرَّحْلِ: قَاهٍ. يُقَالُ: إِنَّهُ لَفِي عَيْشٍ قَاهٍ. فَأَمَّا قَوْلُهُمْ: أَقْهَى الرَّجُلُ مِنْ طَعَامٍ، إِذَا اجْتَوَاهُ، فَلَيْسَ ذَلِكَ مِنْ جِهَةِ اجْتِوَائِهِ إِيَّاهُ، وَإِنَّمَا هُوَ مِنْ كَثْرَتِهِ عِنْدَهُ حَتَّى يَتَمَلَّأَ عِنْدَهُ فَيَجْتَوِيَهُ. وَأَمَّا الْقَهْوَةُ فَالْخَمْرُ، قَالُوا: وَسُمِّيَتْ قَهْوَةً أَنَّهَا تُقْهِي عَنِ الطَّعَامِ; وَالْقِيَاسُ وَاحِدٌ.
