(قَلَمَ) الْقَافُ وَاللَّامُ وَالْمِيمُ أَصْلٌ صَحِيحٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى تَسْوِيَةِ شَيْءٍ عِنْدَ بَرْيِهِ وَإِصْلَاحِهِ. مِنْ ذَلِكَ: قَلَمْتُ الظُّفُرَ وَقَلَّمْتُهُ. وَيُقَالُ لِلضَّعِيفِ: هُوَ مَقْلُومُ الْأَظْفَارِ. وَالْقُلَامَةُ: مَا يَسْقُطُ مِنَ الظُّفُرِ إِذَا قُلِمَ. وَمِنْ هَذَا الْبَابِ سُمِّيَ الْقَلَمُ قَلَمًا قَالُوا: سُمِّيَ بِهِ لِأَنَّهُ يُقْلَمُ مِنْهُ كَمَا يُقْلَمُ مِنَ الظُّفُرِ، ثُمَّ شُبِّهَ الْقِدْحُ بِهِ فَقِيلَ: قَلَمٌ. وَيُمْكِنُ أَنْ يَكُونَ الْقِدْحُ سُمِّي قَلَمًا لِمَا ذَكَرْنَاهُ مِنْ تَسْوِيَتِهِ وَبَرْيِهِ. قَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى: {وَمَا كُنْتَ لَدَيْهِمْ إِذْ يُلْقُونَ أَقْلَامَهُمْ} [آل عمران: 44] . وَمِنَ الْبَابِ الْمِقْلَمُ: طَرَفُ قُنْبِ الْبَعِيرِ، كَأَنَّهُ قَدْ قُلِمَ، وَيُقَالُ إِنَّ مَقَالِمَ الرُّمْحِ: كُعُوبُهُ.

وَمِمَّا شَذَّ عَنْ هَذَا الْأَصْلِ الْقُلَامُ، وَهُوَ نَبْتٌ. قَالَ:

أَتَوْنِي بِقُلَامٍ فَقَالُوا تَعَشَّهُ ... وَهَلْ يَأْكُلُ الْقُلَامَ إِلَّا الْأَبَاعِرُ.
