- فِي حَدِيثِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، فِي ذِكْر قُرَيْش «هِيَ دَابَّةٌ تَسْكْن البَحْر تأكُل دَوابَّه» وَأَنْشَدَ فِي ذَلِكَ:
وقُرَيْشٌ هِيَ الَّتِي تَسْكن البحر بِهَا سُمِّيت قرَيْشٌ قُرَيْشاً وَقِيلَ: سُمِّيت لاجتماعِها بِمَكَّةَ بَعْدَ تَفَرُّقها فِي الْبِلَادِ. يُقَالُ: فُلان يَتَقَرَّش الْمَالَ :
أَيْ يَجْمَعه.

(قَرَشَ) الْقَافُ وَالرَّاءُ وَالشِّينُ أَصْلٌ صَحِيحٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى الْجَمْعِ وَالتَّجَمُّعِ. فَالْقَرْشُ: الْجَمْعُ، يُقَالُ تَقَرَّشُوا، إِذَا تَجَمَّعُوا. وَيَقُولُونَ: إِنَّ قُرَيْشًا سُمِّيَتْ بِذَلِكَ. وَالْمُقَرِّشَةُ: السَّنَةُ الْمَحْلُ، لِأَنَّ النَّاسَ يَضُمُّونَ مَوَاشِيَهُمْ. وَيُقَالُ: تَقَارَشَتِ الرِّمَاحُ فِي الْحَرْبِ، إِذَا تَدَاخَلَ بَعْضُهَا فِي بَعْضٍ. وَيَقُولُونَ: إِنَّ قُرَيْشًا: دَابَّةٌ تَسْكُنُ الْبَحْرَ تَغْلِبُ سَائِرَ الدَّوَابِّ. قَالَ:

وَقُرَيْشٌ هِيَ الَّتِي تَسْكُنُ الْبَحْ ... رَ بِهَا سُمِّيَتْ قُرَيْشٌ قُرَيْشًا.
