(غَلَبَ) الْغَيْنُ وَاللَّامُ وَالْبَاءُ أَصْلٌ صَحِيحٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى قُوَّةٍ وَقَهْرٍ وَشِدَّةٍ. مِنْ ذَلِكَ: غَلَبَ الرَّجُلُ غَلْبًا وَغَلَبًا وَغَلَبَةً. قَالَ اللَّهُ - تَعَالَى -: {وَهُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِ غَلَبِهِمْ سَيَغْلِبُونَ} [الروم: 3] . وَالْغِلَابُ: الْمُغَالَبَةُ. وَالْأَغْلَبُ: الْغَلِيظُ الرَّقَبَةِ. يُقَالُ: غَلِبَ يَغْلَبُ غَلَبًا. وَهَضْبَةٌ غَلْبَاءُ، وَعِزَّةٌ غَلْبَاءُ. وَكَانَتْ تَغْلِبُ تُسَمَّى الْغَلْبَاءُ. قَالَ: وَأَوْرَثَنِي بَنُو الْغَلْبَاءِ مَجْدًا ... حَدِيثًا بَعْدَ مَجْدِهِمُ الْقَدِيمِ

وَاغْلَوْلَبَ الْعُشْبُ: بَلَغَ كُلَّ مَبْلَغٍ. وَالْمُغَلَّبُ مِنَ الشُّعَرَاءِ: الْمَغْلُوبُ مِرَارًا. وَالْمُغَلَّبُ أَيْضًا: الَّذِي غَلَبَ خَصْمَهُ أَوْ قِرْنَهُ، كَأَنَّهُ غَلَبَ عَلَى خَصْمِهِ، أَيْ جُعِلَتْ لَهُ الْغَلَبَةُ.
