الغُثَاءُ: غُثَاءُ السّيل والقدر، وهو ما يطفح ويتفرّق من النّبات اليابس، وزبد القدر، ويضرب به المثل فيما يضيع ويذهب غير معتدّ به، ويقال: غَثَا الوادي غَثْواً، وغَثَتْ نفسُه تَغْثِي غَثَيَاناً: خبثت.
