(عَمِهَ) الْعَيْنُ وَالْمِيمُ وَالْهَاءُ أَصْلٌ صَحِيحٌ وَاحِدٌ، يَدُلُّ عَلَى حَيْرَةٍ وَقِلَّةِ اهْتِدَاءٍ. قَالَ الْخَلِيلُ: عَمِهَ الرَّجُلُ يَعْمَهُ عَمَهًا، وَذَلِكَ إِذَا تَرَدَّدَ لَا يَدْرِي أَيْنَ يَتَوَجَّهُ. قَالَ اللَّهُ: {وَيَذَرُهُمْ فِي طُغْيَانِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ} [الأعراف: 186] . قَالَ يَعْقُوبُ: ذَهَبَتْ إِبِلُهُ الْعُمَّيْهَى، مُشَدَّدَةُ الْمِيمِ، إِذَا لَمْ يَدْرِ أَيْنَ ذَهَبَتْ.
